Why?

|
An
installed bad or corrupt download, any objects with GUID’s that are the
same as another object, as well as many other Sims mishaps and phenomena.
can cause irritating and frustrating game crashes that make playing your
Sims difficult or even impossible!
There are
several ways your Sims game can be damaged. Although most user creators
test their creations before offering them up for download, at times there
can be custom content that can cause your game to malfunction leaving you
with no other option but to uninstall and reinstall your game completely.
Even
though there are still several Sims 1 websites out there, they are becoming
fewer and fewer as the world moves on to Sims 2. Because of this, backing
up your Downloaded custom Sims Content, is an essential part of the Sims 1
experience!

How?

|
The very
first thing to do, when you’ve decided you are tired of having to re-install
all of your favorite downloads after something happens to your game, is to
devise a back-up plan.
First,
decide on a regular schedule for saving your files and stick to it.
Then
decide how you want to save your files. There are several options for doing
this, and it’s best that you choose the one most convenient for
you…otherwise…You won’t stick to your back-up schedule, and your files will
not get saved and could be lost forever should your game crash!
Some File
Saving Options:
·
Store
copies of each file somewhere else on your hard drive.
·
Store
them in an online file storage community like RipWay or YahooGroup.
(Warning: Do NOT share ANY downloaded content this way, without first
getting permission from the creator!)
·
Zip
up the files with WinZip or another comparable compression program and
store them onto a CD, DVD disc, or another hard drive you might have available to you.
(Warning: Sometimes zipping up a file can corrupt it and render it useless!
Be sure the file is not ruined before you ever throw away the original!)
·
Personally,
I just put mine all in a zip file and freshen the zip file monthly or at
the other convenient times.

When?

|
Personally,
I back mine up before adding any new content from a site I haven’t gotten
anything from before and then again once every month.

Anyone who
has custom content in his/her game that he/she does NOT want to lose should
develop a file saving routine to prevent permanent loss of any custom
content!

Make it a
habit to save your files often. Then, if a problem does occur and you find
yourself having to start all over, you can simply unzip your backed-up
files into the newly reinstalled game…overwriting everything…Losing
NOTHING!
I hope
this helps you keep on Simming for a long time!
